I'm here! I arrived safely... just about. Played lots of millionaire on the plane Cowle and Aidan so on top form right now! When I walked out the airport these little boys were grabbing my t shirt and then tried to get in my taxi with me! And when I arrived at the hotel I was more confused and lost than I'd ever been in my entire life. I was hungry and thirsty too so decided to order some room service. A bottle of pepsi and a mutton burger, delivered to my room, for the grand total of... 90p!

Once I'd built up the courage to leave my room I was escorted to another hotel and taken downstairs into the basement and an "office" that was filled with stacks of tiles - very random. The guy opened up a little book and turned to a page that had my name and flight details on - it justs gets more confusing and random by the minute! Anyway, he's now arranged an itinerary (finally got the right spelling!) for me whilst in India that incudes flying down to Goa tomorrow morning (where hopefully I'm gonna meet up with my mate), going to Bombay, the pink city, the Taj Mahal and Varanassi (and more). I managed to haggle quite well for my first attempt saving myself 105 pounds! There's 2 guys who run this "company" who are brothers and both really nice and talk good English which was a massive relief. One walked me round the streets and we got chatting and he got the impression I had come to India to live so wants me to go and live with him and apparently I can be his third son! Haha. he wasnt even joking and then put his arm around me... lol!

After sorting my itinerary I was able to go to a few sights. Went to Ghandi's burial place which was in a really nice and relaxing park that just appears from nowhere in the middle of busy mental streets and goes on forever! Then went to a temple which the Taj Mahal imitates in style where a king and many others have tombstones. This guide wouldnt leave me alone then made me pay him :-s not much though, phew! It got dark so I went and had my first proper Indian curry - a butterchicken! It was mild and yet hot, if u know what i mean. The curry itself was about 2.50, the rice a pound and a basket of naan bread about 40p. I got a beer too which I thought was actually quite expensive at close to 2 pounds, that is until they brought in a litre bottle of beer! For all of this I was escorted by 2 guys, one who was the driver and one who was my guide. When we got to each place the guide would show me around whilst the driver waited in the car and during my meal they both waited in the car. We covered quite a distance and were gone for about 3 and a half hours and it only cost me 5 pounds! (keep typing pounds as no pound button!)

One big thing that stands out here is that India seems to have no laws whatsoever when it comes to the roads. There are lanes marked but I dont know why cos they're not used; if u want to get somewhere u do whatever u can, not letting anyone or anything get in ur way! Amazingly I havent actually seen a crash yet. Cars dont stop or even look when they come to a junction or roundabout, they just keep going. Drivers here obviously dont understand the concept of mirrors. I'd say 1/3 of cars dont use their mirrors, 1/3 fold them in (so they can fit through smaller gaps!) and 1/3 dont have mirrors full stop! And then theres the horns... UNBELIEVABLE! There is LITERALLY a constant sound of horns; people just do it for the hell of it I'm sure! U seriously have to hear it to believe it.

I'm off to bed as didn't really sleep on the plane and got another plane to catch in the morning.

Dan.
